The Challenge

Education in Sierra Leone is still out of reach for many children. Poverty, gender discrimination, long distances to school, early marriage (30% of women marry before age 18), teenage pregnancy, and unsafe learning environments continue to hold them back.

When the Bailor Foundation began serving this community in 2005, it had just 900 residents. Today, the population has grown to nearly 2,850. The school has acted as both a magnet for families and a catalyst for growth, drawing people together around the promise of education.

Yet major challenges remain:

These gaps are not just logistical—they represent missed opportunities for children to break cycles of poverty and create brighter futures. With the right support, we can change that.

  • Outdated classrooms, toilets, and staff housing

  • Limited teaching materials and student exam support

  • Underpaid teachers and no stipends

  • Few opportunities for co-curricular activities or skills training

  • No mentorship, counseling, or modern teacher development

At the Bailor Foundation, we do not see these challenges as roadblocks but as opportunities to create lasting change. The growth of this community proves that when education takes root, transformation follows—families thrive, children dream bigger, and hope becomes stronger than hardship.

This is why we are committed to doing more. From improving facilities and supporting teachers, to expanding learning opportunities and equipping students with life skills, we believe the next chapter of this story can be even brighter.

But we cannot do it alone. With your partnership, we can turn obstacles into stepping stones and make quality education a reality for every child in this community and beyond.
