At the primary school level, completion rates for boys and girls are fairly close (63% boys vs. 65% girls), but at the upper secondary level, completion drops more drastically especially for girls (27% boys vs. 18% girls). Youth literacy rate for males (ages 15-24) was 75.23% in 2022, showing a decline from 78.2% in 2019. For females, the youth literacy rate is lower at 59.29%, according to recent data estimates for 2025. The overall youth literacy rate combining both genders is about 67.57%.
